Everyday people ask me what supplements I take. They are always supprised when I tell them that them most important supplement is a basic multivitamin.   If  your not taking them now, you better change that immediately if you want to meet your fitness goals.

I started taking a Multivitamin EVERYDAY about 10 years ago, and I have been sick less than 5 times in the the last 10 years!!!

What Is A Multi And Why Do I Need One?
For the human body to complete all the tasks it has in a normal day, it must be given a wide and complex variety of vital nutrients. Becoming deficient in any one of these essential vitamins or minerals causes breakdown of the metabolic pathway that produces optimum efficiency and performance goes down quick. Obviously, this is NOT what you want!

Making sure you take a high-potency multivitamin/multi-mineral formula may help ensure the presence of those essential nutrients necessary for thousands of metabolic reactions.

Bodybuilders, athletes, and people that lead active lifestyles need even more nutrients than the average non-active person. So if you think that just grabbing the first one you see on the shelf is going to work for you, think again.

Without the multi, I am convinced that the other supplements you take will not be as effective. Not only is the multi the foundation of a great supplement strategy, it should be the first thing you take care of. First thing when you get up in the morning, take your multi. Done. You are now ready to go with whatever it is you have to do for the day. If you are in serious training, then you’ll find support for faster recovery by taking your multi as soon as you finish working out.

What Makes Up A Multi?
Now some multis have small differences from others, but for the most part, the multi is comprised of the same individual vitamins and minerals. Even though they are normally packaged together in multis, there are differences between the two.
1. Vitamins
Vitamins are organic. They are more complex than minerals. All vitamins are required by our bodies for survival. Vitamins control the chemical reactions within the body to convert food into energy and living tissue. They are either water soluble which must be taken daily since they are not stored in the body (Vitamin C and all of the B Vitamins) or fat soluble, which are stored in the body (A, D, E, and K).

Vitamins are vulnerable to heat, light, and chemical agents, so food preparation, processing, and storing it must be appropriate to preserve vitamins so you get the nutritional value out of the meal.

Vitamin Basic Function

  • A – Vision, healthy skin and mucous membranes, bone and tooth growth, immune system health
  • B complex -Important for nerve function, normal vision and skin health, nervous and digestive systems
  • C- Immune system and protects cells
  • D- Absorption and use of calcium
  • E- Powerful antioxidant
  • K- Bones, teeth and cartilage health
  • Zinc –Immune System Health

2. Minerals
Minerals are inorganic. They are much simpler in chemical form than vitamins. They are much more stable in food preparation than vitamins also. Minerals are categorized as major/macro – (calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium, and sulfur), and trace/micro- (iron, iodine, zinc, chromium, selenium, fluoride, molybdenum, copper, and manganese) minerals.

Major minerals we need in dosages greater than 100 mg a day. The trace minerals we only need “trace” amounts of daily to suffice. Minerals are used to produce necessary hormones. A simpler way to remember this is that all minerals are found on the periodic table.

  • Boron – Metabolism of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous
  • Calcium- Strong and healthy normal bones
  • Chromium- Insulin Production Copper- Strengthen connective tissue
  • Iodine –Thyroid Hormone Synthesis
  • Iron –Carries oxygen within protein hemoglobin
  • Lutein –Eye Health
  • Lycopene- Heart Health, Supports Healthy Cholesterol
  • Magnesium- Over 300 biochemical reactions of body
  • Manganese- Co-factor in energy production, activator of many enzymes
  • Molybdenum- Supports normal liver and kidney health
  • Nickel- Healthy skin and bone structure
  • Potassium- Used by Autonomic Nervous System (heart beat, brain function)
  • Selenium- Fights against many health problems
  • Vanadium- Works with Molybdenum

Hopefully by now you know and appreciate the true value of what a multivitamin means to your bodybuilding and fitness goals. The protein, energy drinks, and all the others are great, but without a multi, you are not meeting your true physical fitness potential.

It doesn’t matter whether you are male or female, young or old, bodybuilder, football player, or everyday gym rat. Your multi should be the first supplement you take every day.

    just purchased your workout plan on wednesday and im pleased with the info, iv’e started everything but I have a couple of questions.
    at the moment the only supplement im using is Tea Rexx in the morning, is that ok or do I also need to be taking the multi-vitamins.
    and how many days full rest no workout days should I take in a week is it just 1 day?

      First off! THanks for buying the workout plan! I am happy that you have found the info to be helpfull!!! TEA REXX is great for energy and to staying ripped, but you should still take a multi just to make sure your getting all your nutrients. One or 2 rest days is good. I would not take to many more that that pre week.

    Thanks for all of the hard work you dedicate to this website. All of your information and replies to my comments have been very useful. Over the past two years I’ve been very active and dedicated to taking care of myself. I have lost weight naturally (diet & exercise) the first year and since have been active in building muscle naturally. I’ve put on about 12lbs the past year from home. Lately I’ve been pondering a career in the fitness industry such as personal training. I would like to know which accredited program you receiveed your certification from. Also how long did it take you to study for the exam? Thanks for all of your advice…it’s greatly appreciated.

    • Whats up Jason! congrats on all of your progress!!! I got my certification when I was working at Bally’s as a trainer during college (Howard University). I got my certification with ACE but I don’t remember how long it took because my WHOLE time at college is kind of a blur lol.

      As I recall, It did not take long, I just had to take a test one day, it was no big deal cuz i knew all the info (I know that sounds cocky, I just dont know any other way to say it.) I really don’t remember studying for the test. I had been studying heath and fitness for years already on my own, so I knew everything that was on the test already. (I think that that test should be HARDER! I think that the test should have a PHYSICAL part to it were people have to be able to run a mile in under 6 mins, or do a 100 push ups in under a 1 min. to many out of shape trainers around making us look bad!)

      Bally’s is a great place to start because they will train you and let your start working BEFORE your certified (but you’ll have to get certified with in a few week or you will be fired!!!)

      • 100 push ups in under 1 min! damn! I only managed 70 and I was top of my sport class by a mile! but I suppose that would be good as a lot of personal trainers don’t practise what they preach lol

  3. What’s your take on One-A-Day’s? I mean I love the Animal Pak too but sometimes my budget doesn’t allow me to purchase the Universal products every month. So, even though they are “One-A-Days” I will take one first thing in the morning, and then one right after my work out with my post work out meal. Just curious your take on these if I can’t afford the Animal Pak every month. Thanks for all your help each and every day bro!! I keep passing this website along to all my buddies and they love it too!! You keep me motivated!!

    • Great question Jeremie!!! I think any multi is GOOD, but Animal Pack is the BEST. If you can not afford it, taking any multi is better than nothing. As always, you have to do the best you can with what you have. Thanks for the comment!

    I live in the U.K so can’t get hold Tea Rexx or Animal Pack, but I do take Essential Multivitamins everyday.

    When I usually workout this is what I do:

    First set – I do 10 reps – (Moderate, good weight)

    Second set – I do 10 reps – (Intermediate, getting harder)

    Third set – I do 8-10 reps – Try my best to reach ten, usually fail at 9
    but try to force myself to ten.

    90 second rest in-between sets.

    Is that okay? What I’m worried about is doing loads in the first set, to failure. Second set and third set I wouldn’t be able to lift one because I’m out of juice?

    Sorry for being long man, just wanted to clarify.

Hi Brandon, I’ve been reading about ANIMAL PACK and forums some say that “it is more than a MultiVitamin,” we like to suggest that is a PRE-HORMONAL and others say it is NATURAL, so I doubt fall consuming if not just a multivitamin, you could clear my doubts or, a multivitamin with the pharmacy would achieve the same results? thank you very much brother …. you are the barnyard rooster

  6. I take GNC vitamin packs and this looks interesting. But my question is some nutritionists and diet experts say you only need the FDA approved amount of vitamin and your body shall we say, eliminates, what you don’t need, so anything above that is too much? What is your thought on this?

      That is Great question man!!! first off “The FDA approved amount of vitamin” is the SUGGESTED MINIMUM!!! meaning that they SUGGEST that you get A LEAST that amount!

      but the worst part is that the numbers they picked are kind of arbitrary. I mean how can they say that they know the perfect about of vitamins for everyone? we all have different size, height, weight, and activity levels so everyone’s body has different needs. any nutritionist should know that!!! the best nutritionist will take a blood sample form you to see what YOU need and don’t.

      as far as getting too much of a any vitamins, it will not hurt you (unless your taking wild amounts) because your body will piss out anything it dose not need. that’s why your piss smells and it is bright yellow after you take vitamins.

    I got a few questions on this animal pak supplement.

    -Does it have any side effect/long term side effects which can be bad for your health?

    -I heard that you need to take 9 pills a day or something around that. And some pills are pretty big so does it matter if you take them 1 by one instead?

    and Last question
    -After taking them will you be dependent on them? Like if you stop taking them will you feel in a bad shape?
